The 3-Day Uganda Gorillas & Golden Monkey Trekking Safari is one of the most unique primate experiences in Africa — the only itinerary that combines mountain gorilla trekking and golden monkey trekking in a single, compact safari. Both encounters take place in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Uganda's smallest national park and the only place in the country where you can track both species on the same day.
Golden monkeys are endemic to the Albertine Rift and found only in the Virunga volcanoes shared by Uganda, Rwanda, and the DRC. Their brilliant golden-orange flanks and acrobatic leaps through bamboo thickets make them one of Africa's most visually spectacular primates. Mgahinga's Nyakagezi gorilla family is one of the most habituated and relaxed in the Virungas, offering an intimate trekking experience in a less-visited setting than Bwindi.
The Batwa Cultural Trail on Day 3 adds a profound human dimension — a guided walk with the indigenous Batwa people, the original forest-dwellers of the Virungas, whose ancient knowledge of the forest provides essential context for the conservation story of these remarkable mountains.
